It measures the adhesiveness of a coating film, and is generally referred to as a grid test.

With a steel needle (tip angle 60°) applied to a predetermined load, the coating film is drawn 11 at a pitch of 0.5 mm, then the sample piece is rotated 90° to scratch 11, and the extent of peeling of the resulting 100 mesh is observed.
